Managed Wi-Fi

Corporate Wi-Fi

The task of adding Wi-Fi in an organization can often seem daunting for an IT department. Even for those comfortable, complications during installation and management of a Wi-Fi network often arise early in any deployment. Colony makes managing private Wi-Fi deployments very simple by taking the guesswork out of configuration, ensuring not only simple end-user connectivity but maintaining security policies, and in some cases, even creating them.

Our managed Wi-Fi networks are centrally administered through controllers in our data center. For larger installations, we generally place a local controller on site as well.

Colony’s corporate Wi-Fi solution features:

  • Integration into an existing Active Directory service if present, or using our cloud based identity servers
  • Enterprise grade Wi-Fi network equipment from Aruba Networks and other vendors
  • Simple interface for customers to request move/add/changes on the  corporate Wi-Fi
  • Virtual branch capable allowing quick deployment on a centrally managed solution at multiple sites

No client software required on wireless device -works seamlessly with Apple iPads, laptops, Macs, iPhones, Android devices and Blackberries.

Customized Guest Wi-Fi

Colony’s guest Wi-Fi service segments Wi-Fi networks such that guests are able to access Internet applications and services without negatively interfering with other parts of the network. The guest service is designed to allow the client to offer any number of guest access models in their locations, including:

  • Open access, no terms, nothing to click on by user
  • Terms limited access, requires user to click ‘I accept’ after reading terms; limits liability
  • Voucher based access; clients are able to generate voucher codes that time limit access once used by a customer at a location
  • Authentication configuration to a central interface (we can also extend simple MAC address based white lists to 802.1x based central authorization models using managed intelligent switches)
  • Mobile phone based access; a temporary code is sent to a user via text message after they enter their mobile phone number
  • Paid access; access is only granted after a guest has paid for their session with a credit card
  • Access to Boingo subscribers (www.boingo.com) – account holders are able to connect to Colony-enabled Guest Wi-Fi networks

In addition to the guest access models, Colony also offers:

  • bandwidth shaping per customer
  • content filtering to exclude questionable content
  • custom content per location if so desired, can include a menu or web application
  • over the air security if required (WPA2), in addition to a captive portal without OTA security
  • hosted guest identities, including easy roaming between locations
  • terms and conditions that the end user has to abide by when using the service
